Enrichment Programs

After School Enrichment

After School Enrichment (ASE) provides a variety of enrichment programs, taught before and after the school day, on campus for all grade levels. Classes usually meet once a week for 10-12 weeks, but may vary based on program. All programs are fee-based with a percentage of proceeds returning to Bird Rock Foundation. For details on our current program offerings, please email: afterschoolenrichment@birdrockfoundation.org

Cultural Assemblies

Bird Rock Foundation sponsors special assemblies throughout the school year to supplement and provide additional enrichment opportunities for our children. Some examples of  assemblies, funded by the Foundation, include messages that support anti-bullying, red ribbon week and STEAM.

Missoula Children’s Theatre

The Missoula Children’s Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. This coming year more than 65,000 cast members across the globe will take to the stage to the delight and applause of their families, friends, community, neighbors and teachers!  The residency in La Jolla is made possible by the Bird Rock Foundation with help from private donations.

Running Club

Kids love Running Club because they get to have fun with their friends while tracking mile after mile. Teachers love Running Club because it sends kids into class with more focus. Parents love Running Club because it provides a healthy model for positive lifelong habits.

This FREE school enrichment program is open to all parents and students. Incentives and Certificates of Achievement for the children will be provided for every 5 miles recorded.

School Safety Patrol

The School Safety Patrol (S.S.P) program was established in 1935 by the San Diego Police Department and began with just one school. Its purpose was to assist elementary school children cross uncontrolled intersections on their way to and from school and to reduce the number of pedestrian and bicycle collisions involving elementary-aged students.

5th grade students in this program undergo training in the spring of their 4th grade year and attend weekly meetings for ongoing training with a San Diego police officer. They wear red shirts and caps, and are stationed on La Jolla Hermosa Ave. They are selected, trained, and supervised on an ongoing basis by Juvenile Services Team Officers from eight area stations. Their jobs include:

  • Control pedestrian traffic
  • Control vehicle traffic
  • Watch and report traffic violations

Bird Squad

Bird Squad is a 5th grade leadership group who participate in various ways to mentor younger peers and help build community within the campus.  From welcoming incoming Kindergartners during summer play dates, to leading games for lower grades during recess, our talented group of Bird Squad students build leadership and social skills.

STEAMFest

STEAMFest is an exciting annual event at BRE that features over 20 interactive, exploration-based, fun, and interdisciplinary activity stations for students and their families across technology, robotics, biology, marine sciences, and so much more! By supporting the event, we help our kids see themselves as scientists, artists, creators and inventors and build an appreciation that true innovation comes with combining the mind of a scientist or engineer/technologist with that of an artist.
